What is sequenceXtra?

SequenceXtra is an Xtra that gives Macromedia Director 5.0 and later versions extensive MIDI functionality. SequenceXtra is a Lingo Xtra, which means that it is totally controlled by Lingo. It has no graphical elements (like windows, buttons, dialogs etc.), and will not be visible in the Xtras menu in Director.

SequenceXtra extends Lingo with a multitude of commands and functions, that lets You as an author/programmer handle almost anything that is specified in the MIDI protocol.

SequenceXtra is a Sequencer
SequenceXtra is created on the metaphor of the MIDI sequencer. You work with Songs, Tracks, Parts and Events. You can open and save Standard MIDI-files (SMF), as well as the proprietary file format of the Xtra itself, that lets You save and open files with settings specific for sequenceXtra and not supported by the Standard MIDI file format.

Recording
SequenceXtra also supports real time recording from any MIDI-keyboard, and You can use the non destructive quantization to fine tune Your recordings.

Editing
Naturally You can edit Your recordings by manipulating sequenceXtras Event list. Every MIDI event is readily available for editing. Even while You're playing. Your changes will be instantly reflected in the music.

Internet
sequenceXtra comes with a version of the Xtra intended to reside in the plug-ins folder of Your Shockwave folder. This allows You to take full advantage of all the MIDI possibilities given by sequenceXtra on the World Wide Web. Just save Your work as a shockwave movie, embed it in a web page and You´re off creating musical experiences for the web.
The only thing the user need is the special www version of sequenceXtra which is included in You sequenceXtra kit and totally free for You to distribute.

Auto download
It is even possible to have the www Xtra installed on the users machine automatically when the user enters You web page. After an alert, giving the user a chance to abort or accept installation of sequenceXtra, Your page comes alive with the music You created. For instructions on how to accomplish this, see Appendix 3; "sequenceXtra on the web".
