Final Project

Notation Requirements

Create a notation file of the example with the following components:

1. Transcribe this piece for instrumental ensemble and solo treble voice. The ensemble is your choice with the following restrictions: There must be atleast five instruments in the ensemble (plus the vocalist), they must all be single line instruments (no pianos), atleast one of them must be a transposing instrument, and the ensemble must make logical sense. No instrument should double the vocal line.
2. Notate each instrument on its own staff. The final result should be a transposing score, but you might want to enter all the information in concert pitch first.
3. Keep in mind the instrument ranges.
4. Be sure to include the repeat structure as well as the first and second ending brackets on all parts.
5. Include all tempo, dynamic, and articulation markings in all parts.
6. Include all lyrics in the voice part.
7. Include title and composer information (composer is Charles Ives).
8. Include your name as a footer.
9. Format the document so it will fit on the pages without looking too compressed.
10. This may be done using either Finale or Sibelius

*Turn in a printout of the transposing score and the vocal part and submit the electronic version of the file through Blackboard*

Sequencer Requirements

Create a MIDI file of the above example with the following components:

1. Record a transcription of this example for your ensemble (same instrumentation as above) and solo instrument (your choice, but something other than a keyboard instrument).
2. Each instrument should be recorded on its own track and channel.
3. Record the example 1 time through, do not repeat, go directly to the 2nd ending.
4. Make all necessary adjustments to tempo, volume, key velocity, panning, etc., in order to make this a very musical recording (the score does contain both tempo and volume changes).
5. Create this recording in Cubase or Reason. You may not simply export a MIDI file from the notation program.
6. Name your files xxxxxxxxDreams.cpr and xxxxxxxxDreams.mid or xxxxxxxxDreams.rsn.

*Submit the Cubase file (.cpr) and the exported MIDI file (.mid)* If you create the project in Reason, just submit the Reason file (.rsn)
