Concerto-Sonata Form
-
Sonata form for a Concerto movement contains many of the characteristics of a normal sonata form movement.
-
All the normal key and thematic relationships are present.
-
Rather than a repeated Expo., the movement will contain an Orchestral Exposition and a Solo Exposition.
-
The Orchestral Exposition will not modulate, the Solo Expostion will.
-
The Development section may include anything, but frequently serves as a showcase for the soloist.
-
The Recapitulation will frequently combine elements from both expositions.
-
The Recapitulation will remain in tonic.
-
A cadenza is often added somewhere after the conclusion of the S theme.
