Along with sequence and imitation, the following are the most common techniques:

Augmentation - the lengthening of rhythmic values by a specific ratio (i.e., 2:1 or 3:1).

Diminution - the shorting of rhythmic values by a specific ration (i.e., 2:1 or 3:1).

Inversion - changing the contour of the material (flipping it upside down).

Stretto - overlapping statements of the material.
